GETTING STARTED

Step 1

Secure a local Bike or Cycling Club partner.

The sponsor will work with the Bike Club partner to organize and promote the event.

Step 2

Cyclists register via the Bike Club website.

Cyclists must register prior to the event and

complete the bike club insurance waiver.

Step 3

Plan the event.

  • Every event needs a check-in station, refreshment station(s) and volunteer help.
  • The bike route should incorporate bike trails, avoid crossing streets and must be mapped in advance. All routes would begin/end at the same point. Consider creating 3 routes for cyclists of all skill levels: 2-3, 15 and/or 30 miles.

Awarding prizes or distributing free shirts is optional.

Step 4

Account for fees, injuries and safety needs.

Be sure your planning team considers:

  • What cycling routes exist?
  • Fees, if any, to reserve route/park shelter as a point for registration.
  • If safety officers are needed.
  • Who is responsible for accidents? Will the cycle club cover insurance?
  • What happens if the weather is bad?
